Hurricane Pumps SA has corporate offices in Cape Town and Polokwane. We are the leading suppliers of the best quality water pumps.
Hurricane SA was started by Duncan Mackie more than 10 years agoand provided an alternative affordable option in borehole, well point and centrifugal pumps.
A borehole motor relies on two major elements which are either reliable or not and that would be the amount and quality of copper used and the bearings that the motor turns on and it hear where it will determine the life span of the motor it is here where no expense has been spared.
Choosing a pump is really easy all you need to know is the depth or height to which you pump water. Height refers to the vertical meters. Most boreholes in South Africa are less than 100 meters and more than 25 meters.
There is basically 3 motors that work between 25 and 100 meters and they are 0.37, 0.55 and 0.75 Kw motors.
It is important to get motor sized correctly because incorrectly sized motors will burn out in time. If the pump is installed too shallow or to deep it is “out of curve”
No that we got electric motor organized let choose pump that attaches to it and again it is easy. 99% of all Boreholes or wells in South Africa us a 2 Series “wet-end” 2/8 or 2/10 and 2/14 this series are common across all brands. The two in front means 2000 Litters on hour and as South Africa is dry country most holes or wells can not produce more than that in water so you cant go wrong by choosing a 2 Series however we do stock 4/8 and even 12 series for the fortunate few. The next number 2/8 means impellors and that depends on size of motor and an impellor more or less only makes a slight difference.
So 2/8 or 2/9 will go on 0.37KW and 2/10 on 0.55KW and 2/14 on 0.75KW and there you have it very simple and we know you smart so you cane extrapolate for 1.1,1.5 and 2.2 KW
Control boxes and chosen by the size of the capacitor which starts up the motor and you can always use one size up like 0.55KW control box on 0.37 but never other way round. All control boxes and pretty much made equal they have a capacitor and a voltage trip switch rated for motor to stop it from burning out as voltage climbs due to blocked pump. A voltage trip switches do not last and in time will create faults and we recommend using a smart control box.
The next question we are asked often is can Hurricane SA pumps or motor be used on other brands and the answer is yes all pumps are my to a universal standard. We do however no matter which brand you choose is that when you replace a motor that you replace Pump (wet-end) at same they are often tied to the hip in terms of life span.
